Sound of Music, Gramophone - from "The Vector Series".
In 1887, Emile Berliner patented the first sound recording device that used grooved, flat discs instead of cylinders. These flat discs constituted the earliest known form of records, which later were made in vinyl. Berliner chose the flat discs because they were simpler and more economically advantageous to reproduce, making them more appealing to the broader public. They led to the emergence of the discs we know today as "78s".
