Sound of Music, Phonograph - from "The Vector Series".
The first device capable of recording and playing music was the phonograph, also known as "The old-time music player". It was invented by Thomas Edison in July 1877 and could record sounds by engraving the movements onto tin foil cylinders. Edison's inspiration for this sound recording device arose while he was working on diagrams for the telephone transmitter and discovered that he could apply the same vibrations for other purposes.
